Friedrich von Junzt authored the Unaussprechlichen Kulten, or Nameless Cults, a treatise on cults throughout history, especially those dealing with ancient and monstrous gods and rites. This character and his book were invented by Robert E. Howard. Though his first name is never mentioned in Lovecraft's work we found it in Howard's tales and in a letter by Lovecraft to William Frederick Anger, August 14, 1934.
